A dock wall is a scarce resource, and at most sites it is managed in somebody’s head over a radio. Chockpoint assigns the door itself, inside a single database transaction, so two gates scanning at the same instant cannot be given the same door.

Door assignment that respects the load

Not every door suits every trailer. The rules that a dock supervisor carries around are held by the system instead:

• A chilled load is only ever given a door with power
• A hazardous load is only ever given the door rated for it
• A door marked out of service is taken out of the pool until it is back
• When no suitable door is free, the driver is given a named yard spot rather than being told to wait somewhere

Arrival handling

The arrival is judged against the booked window, so a driver who is early, late or at the wrong site is told which at the gate rather than after they have parked. Every outcome — accepted, queued or turned away — is written to the gate log, which means the pattern of refusals is visible to whoever plans next week.

Dock utilisation

Because the assignment and the release both go through the system, the board shows what each door is doing now and what it did earlier. When a trailer is marked finished, the longest-waiting driver who can use that door is called in automatically.

Nothing leaves before the checks are done

A departure inspection stands in front of every release. For bulk, the weighbridge readings have to reconcile as well. Work that has not been done yet can be waved through by a named person with a reason; a recorded failure cannot be waved through by anybody.
